May 7

- Last week we finished up all our prep for the AP test.
- We took the AP test on Thursday I think.
- Friday was just a chill day which I really liked. It was a good feeling knowing that we are finally done with AP Lit.
- I actually feel like I did alright on the test. The multiple choice was tough. It was like the critical reading portions of the SAT, which is what I scored the lowest in. But as far as the writings went I was actually pretty proud of them. I may or may not actually get a 3 or higher. Well I would if they graded soley off the writing. I guess we'll just have to see. It was way better than the APUSH test though, that's for sure. I guess that makes this my last AP Lit blog though. I'm not quite sure how to take this. I just wiped away a tear that was running down my cheek due to the sadness of this moment. Maybe I'll just continue to post blogs on sunday nights if I'm bored. Eh. Probably not. But oh well. I guess I'll see you later blogspt. It's been real. Stay classy. Curtis Osborne, signing off.

April 30

- Lat week we did a lot of test prep for the AP exam.
- We did 2 multiple choice tests and 3 written essays.
- I scored a solid 54% and 62% on the two multiple choice ones. I guess that's a decent AP score. It would get me a score higher than a 1 on the AP test you would think.
- I didn't really like the test preps on the computer that much, but I guess it was necessary.

April 9

- We finished the Alchemist.
- We did some more group discussion on it. We wrote a summary of what we thought the book was about and turned it in and had other groups look at them and choose one to discuss.
- Our small group chose one to discuss. I said that Santiago persevered to discover his personal legend.
- I like the group discussion. It helps find deeper meaning in the stories.

March 19

- Last week we started reading The Alchemist.
- We also changed seats so we would sit closer to our groups for discussion.
- We discussed the first reading section with our group and also did the inter outer circle thing later. I was the person that recorded who put in input in the group.
- I like the group discussion. It helps me pick up on things in the reading that I may have missed.

March 5

- last week we started working on our satirical projects.
- we also took a test on A Modest Proposal and we're finally done with that.
- Me and korb decided to work together on the project and did it on the unenployment of all the colts players. Our solution was to start a riot.
- I like it that we were able to do our project in groups. I think group projects are more fun than projects you have to do all by yourself,

February 20

- We finally finished Hamlet.
- We are now starting a unit on satire which I am happy about because satire to me means humor.
- We read a few cartoons in class and watched a monty python clip (one of my favorite parts)
- I like the visual aids for satire like videos and comics. I would like to see some more of those. Maybe a daily cartoon to start out the class to get everyone in a satirey mood.

February 6

- We started reading act five of Hamlet.
- We did an activity where we made a boquet of flowers for every character symbolyzing how they would most likely feel about each other.
- We watched some more of the Hamelt movie that has the girl from Titanic in it. She died.
- I like watching the movie because it still helps me pick up on things that I missed in the reading.

Hamlet

1. I think the flowers are imaginary. Flowers are good symbolysim so Ophelia could have imagined them so that she could use them as objects for her explanations.
2. It could suggest a succession of recipients, but we just saw it as repetition in her grammer to emphasize her points.
3. To start with, we believe Ophelia gave Laertes the Rosemary and the Rue as they are mourning the loss of their father. She would probably give the Fennel, a Daisy, Violets, and Pansies to Hamlet. Hamlet got many flowers from her because she has so many different feelings about him.
4. She keeps some for herself because she wants to cry things out after the loss of her father. She is also sad about Hamlet's betrayal.
5. We think it is pretty much just laying there for eveyone to see. The whole group viewing this had some kind of unhappy love.
6. Horatio is simply a spectator because there hasn't been any connection between him and Ophelia shown in the book yet.

Flowers for Hamelt
She would give him rose, aloe, geranium, yellow rose, and peony. She has many conflicted emotions for Hamlet.

Flowers for Gertrude
Hamlet would give her a marigold, aloe, snowdrop, honeysuckle, and a yellow lily. This is because he is saddened by her but she is still his mother so he still loves her.

Flowers for Ophelia
Hamlet would give her a daffodil, amaryllis, a yellow lily, yellow carnations, and a white rose. He may have some prideful emotions since he got her into bed and all.

January 23

- This week we watched some more Hamlet and did some more reading in class.
- We looked harder at the to be or not to be speech.
- We got together in small groups and answered some questions on it.
- I liked the small groups and I liked watching the videos to give me a better visual of what is going on.

January 9

January 2

- we read some short paragraphs and did power points on them talking about diction
- I helped make a slide explaining how the author used apostrophe (repetition)
- We worked in a group on the power point
- I liked working together on the power point. It helped me better understand what diction is

Individual Diction Assignment

1. I understand diction to be the way authors use words to get their points across. They use things like repetition and figurative language to add more depth to their work.
2. I think I understand it. There may be some forms of diction that I am still a bit sketchy on.
